An incomplete recording of not the best quality. But, hey, look at it this way, you still get "Blues Jam." Originally an arena and not in use since the mid-seventies, the building has been repurposed as classrooms, etc. within the last couple of years.

According to the University Michigan = Superb Acoustics

A decent enough recording of this show but not as good as the Chicago Auditorium show the night before.

Krautrocksampler 50 Friday - No. 43 - Tangerine Dream – Electronic Meditation

Not a bad record. Not the type of record that you'd jam out in your garage after a Browns game, but, you know, there are other records for that. Some rock moments, some German speaking, some general weirdness - pretty much what I've come to expect from the genre.

I listened to this boot on CD on the home hi fi. As opposed to listening to it on the iPod or on the computer, which is how I listen to most of my music - like most people. Great show. Great booming recording in this old auditorium. Tons of bass from the room in the mix. Some tape speed issues. It's the full show and you can hear the tapers talking a few times and get a sense of where they were sitting in the room compared to where Pink Floyd was playing. Kind of in the back, I'm thinking.

Pink Floyd
Eastown Theater
Detroit, MI
October 26, 1971

Abandoned and not in use for significant amounts of time since Pink Floyd played there, the Eastown Theater caught fire in 2010. I'm not sure if its still standing. No known recording.

Pink Floyd - October 23, 1971

Pink Floyd
Gardens Arena
Vancouver, BC
October 23, 1971

The book says that Pink Floyd played at Gardens Arena but it is more likley that the place is actually called the Agrodome - at least that's what they are calling it now. No known recording.

Krautrocksampler 50 Friday - No. 42 - Popol Vuh - Hosianna Mantra

Maybe this is supposed to be krautrock church music or something. Lots of celestial keyboards and other uplifting spiritual noodling. It did not do it for me.

Pink Floyd - October 21, 1971

Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd - October 19, 1971

Pink Floyd
National Guard Armory
Eugene, OR
October 19, 1971

I guess this building sold recently for just over 350K. I don't think to anybody with any Pink Floyd connection, but I could be wrong. No known recording.

Cymbaline
Blues

One of the better known and better sounding Pink Floyd boots from this tour. It's edited professionally and missing a couple of songs that were played at the gig. I think the version of "Set the Controls . . . " that I played on the radio show is pretty intense.

This venue was not that big, only 3000 seats, so it is kind of disappointing that the recording is very distant sounding. The vocals on "Fat Old Sun" seem very far away. I wonder if they flew down from San Francisco or drove. Either way, it's kid of a long set for what had to be a long day.

It dawned on me again, while listening to this show, how cool it is to have the recordings so many years later. Great version of "A Saucerful of Secrets" on this one - keyboards high in the mix.
