Krautrocksampler 50 Friday - No. 17 - Cluster - Sowiesoso

More boring electronic noodling. They added some talking and animal noises this time. Even as background sound, there is better stuff out there.

The Budos Band and Charles Bradley at the Beachland Ballroom

Unfortunately, due to a gig that I was playing at the Happy Dog on the same night, I missed a good chunk of this gig. What I saw was fantastic and very inspiring. It's got to be tough to keep such a big band going. Also, I had no idea that the Budos Band had such a large jam band following. There were more than a few white reggae dudes at this show and that's always troubling.

Krautrocksampler 50 Friday - No. 15 - Cluster - Cluster II

Like being hit in the head with a brick and just lying there for awhile. Or taking a short walk through a cavernous and echoing empty space. Cover art suits the music.

No Logo - Naomi Klein

Because I am always behind the times and do not follow the trends, I just read this book about modern production, marketing, and consumption processes now. Probably not that big of a deal because, besides getting side-swiped by 09.11.01, I'm guessing not much has changed. Or, you know, it did not all of the sudden get magically better. In any event, knowing how the world works is important if you want to do something about it or if you just want to operate efficiently in the world as it exists. I was teasing, while reading this book, that this book was the best book that I had ever read about any topic - ever. I was just kidding around but, still, this book was pretty good.

Two quotes from the book:

" . . . while wandering his mind during his last illness." p. 263

"If we tell them all companies are guilty, they will feel they can do nothing." p. 423

Cleveland Confidential Book Tour at the Rock Hall

Cheetah Chrome (Rocket From The Tombs, Dead Boys, Batusis)
Mike Hudson (The Pagans)
Bob Pfeifer (Human Switchboard, Tabby Chinos, former Senior Vice President A&R/Epic/Sony Records and President of Hollywood Records)
David Thomas (Rocket From The Tombs and Pere Ubu)

I told Cheetah Chrome when I bumped into him at the Hyatt at the Old Arcade the next day that I wished that David Thomas would have not talked so much because I would have like to have heard what Mike Hudson and he had to say.

Have you seen the youtube clip of the drunk guy falling on Mike Hudson at one of these readings?

Have you seen the picture of Dave Atkins of the New Salem Witch Hunters asking questions? It's in here:

Krautrocksampler 50 Friday - No. 14 - Can - Delay 1968

Another almost rocking outing from Can. There were times that they reminded me of the Velvet Underground. That's not a bad thing.

Pink Floyd - April 3, 1971

Pink Floyd
Sportpaleis Ahoy
Rotterdam, Netherlands
April 3, 1971

Astronomy Domine
Careful With That Axe, Eugene
Fat Old Sun
Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun
Cymbaline
The Embryo
A Saucerful Of Secrets
Atom Heart Mother

Great version of "Atom Heart Mother" to end this show. The orchestra and chorus were mixed perfectly with the band. Also, I think they were jumping into "Echoes" at some point during "Atom Heart Mother," but, then again, it could have just been my imagination.

Krautrocksampler 50 Friday - No. 13 - Can - Ege Bamyasi

I think I like Can better among all of these Krautrock bands because they are still, in its most basic form, a rock band, and I like rock music.
