The Big Sleep - Raymond Chandler

I read this because William Faulkner wrote the screenplay and Raymond Chandler was a late bloomer - not publishing his first novel until he was 44. I never read any Raymond Chandler before and this was exactly what I expected. Enjoyable pulp fiction with snappy tough guy dialogue.

The Ruiners and Vile Gash at Now That's Class

I missed the Avon Ladies because I was outside in the parking lot jawing with some dudes. Vile Gash was pretty good and the Ruiners did their thing. I got hit in the shoulder by a bass drum rim. This required ice when I got home to keep the swelling down.

Krautrocksampler 50 Friday - No. 32 - Kraftwerk - Kraftwerk

The best part of these records were the explosions on "Von Himmel Hoch." Parts of "Kraftwerk 2" sounded like Pink Floyd, and that's a good thing.

Jac Holzman and Joe Smith at the Rock Hall

Great talk by two old music business lifers. Jac Holzman signed the Stooges. The kids, once again, had to be taken outside during this event.

Neko Case at the Beachland

Neko Case is a great singer and performer and I know why people like her. That did not keep my from texting my boy Andrej during this show and telling him, come on, man, you can do this shit.

Nice recording here with plenty of drums in the mix. The bass drum was particulary loud, so I was able to study what Mr. Mason was doing.

A Light In August - William Faulkner

This was the first Faulkner that I've ever read and I was blown away. He writes in a way that feels like he is pulling you inside of his head. The writing is complex and wordy, but not so much that I felt like I had to re-read every other page. It's the right level of depth and complexity for me. Really a powerhouse writer. I'm glad I have many more of his books to read. Something to look forward to.

Good show. Great recording with the vocals being particularly loud. Rare stage announcements. There was a point during "Echoes" where I thought parts of the song were unnecessary.
