Krautrocksampler 50 Friday - No. 30 - Harmonia - Musik Von Harmonia

File this in the records I won't listen to again category. Ambient electronic noodling. I am tying to understand why so many of these records got any run at all in the first place.

John Coltrane at Leo's Casino

Today is the last day but you still have time to make it down to Leo's Casino for what promises to be a memorable performance by Mr. Coltrane.

Krautrocksampler 50 Friday - No. 29 - Guru Guru - UFO

Now we talkin' krautrock, baby! This is exactly what I think of when I think of the genre. Kind of heavy and spacey guitar rock freakouts that have a bit of Hawkwind in the mix. I dug this record - big time.

A Farewell to Arms - Ernest Hemingway

I re-read "A Farewell to Arms" in celebration of Ernest Hemingways' birthday. The version I read had this cover and was garbage-picked from a nicer house in my neighborhood. A previous reader annotated the book with underlining and insights such as "death" and "guilt." I enjoyed reading "A Farewell to Arms" more this time around than I did at age 16 but it was not a better book. Does that make sense?

Here I am on the front porch of the house where Hemingway was born in Oak Park, IL a few days ago. Old timey effect added by my wife. It's an old house, you know.

Guided by Voices at the Pitchfork Music Festival

I had a good time in Chicago, IL. Got to see Smoking Steve and ride the train and run into Thurston Moore outside of Dusty Groove America. Good trip.
