Inherent Vice - Thomas Pynchon
A crime/detective novel set in Los Angeles, CA in the late sixties with a load of music references. An easy read by Thomas Pynchon's standards. He mentions "The Pipers at the Gates of Dawn." I liked it.

Pink Floyd - April 15, 1972
Pink Floyd
Hollywood Sportatorium
Pembroke Pines, FLA
April 15, 1972
At the time, I guess this was the only big place for concerts in southern Florida. No air conditioning. Torn down in 1993.
There is a bootleg of this show out there but I could not get my hands on it due to the crackdown on the internet. No downloads anywhere and I'm not going to start bit torrenting again. I just don't have the time. Following Pink Floyd around on tour forty years ago has been fun but, in light of the difficulties posed in getting boots and the fact that my favorite period of Pink Floyd was pre-Darkside, this hobby may be coming to an end. I like looking at where Pink Floyd played, but it's going to be bigger venues from here on out and there really is less fun in that. We'll see, but I'm probably winding down here.
Pre-Darkside Pink Floyd forever, please.

Conversations With David Foster Wallace - edited by Stephen J. Burn
Most of this book is newspaper articles that were written around the time that "Infinite Jest" was published or shortly after. Did you know that "Infinite Jest" is 1,079 pages long? If you did not know that before reading this book, you do now. Almost every article mentions the length of "Infinite Jest." Reading this, I was reminded again to read some of the writers that David Foster Wallace liked but, otherwise, this book was not terribly insightful. I guess David Foster Wallace did not like Hunter Thompson. Imagine that? All of the interviews seemed very locked in to the time when they happened, which is in the nineties. It all seems very ten years ago to me and I've moved passed it.

Marquee Moon - Bryan Waterman
A very well-researched historical account of the time and place that produced this highly influencial record. I've been a fan of this album for over twenty years. It's playing in my head now as I type this. I just sent an email to a guy I used to work for who hipped me to this album as a teenager, thanking him. Thanks, Dave.
